These used full-size cargo vans give you plenty of options, starting with a choice between the standard and long-wheelbase body styles, the latter of which increases interior space. There are also three roof options: high, medium, and low. Three weight ratings — 150, 250, and 350 — help you transport greater amounts of delivery goods and business supplies. As you browse the used lot, then, you should find no shortage of options.
The used Ford Transit Cargo Van is only available as a single trim model. How well equipped each van is will depend on model year and selected options, of course. Most come standard with lots of utility features, including keyless entry, cargo area tie-downs, front-seat air conditioning, a rearview camera, and a four-speaker sound system.
Depending on model year, there were four engines available throughout the Transit Cargo Van’s first generation:
- 3.5-liter V6 (275 horsepower, 262 lb-ft of torque)
- Turbo 3.5L V6 (310 hp, 400 lb-ft)
- Turbo 2.0L diesel four-cylinder engine (210 hp, 369 lb-ft)
- Turbo 3.2L diesel inline five-cylinder engine (185 hp, 350 lb-ft)
From the 2020 model year and on, every available engine is linked to a 10-speed automatic transmission. Rear-wheel drive has always been standard equipment, with all-wheel drive available as an option. Before 2020, every engine option came with a six-speed automatic transmission. Available features will vary, but they include the SYNC 3 infotainment system (including a touchscreen and Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone integration), fog lights and a spray-in cargo-area bedliner.
Ford made improvements for almost every Transit Cargo Van model year. Here’s a look at how these vans improved throughout this generation:
- 2023: The engine stop-start system is now standard with the base V6 engine. A rearview mirror with a camera display becomes optional.
- 2021: The 350 HD, a heavy-duty hauler, joins the lineup. Single-rear-wheel models now get a standard electric parking brake. Shoppers can choose from three new upfitting packages: Parcel Delivery, RV Prep, and Adventure Prep. The 2.0-liter diesel engine has been discontinued.
- 2020: A more powerful turbo 2.0-liter diesel four-cylinder engine replaces the diesel five-cylinder engine. All engine options are now paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission. All-wheel drive becomes optional.
- 2019: Long-wheelbase vans feature new cargo door hinges that open wider.
- 2018: Bluetooth, power locks, a locking glovebox, a rear cargo-door exit handle, and an LED cargo area light are now standard.
- 2017: The LED cargo lighting package becomes standard. Dual-rear-wheel vans now come standard with the 3.7-liter V6. The heavy-duty 350 weight-rating is now available with the short wheelbase. Heated front seats and power-retractable running boards become optional.
- 2016: A rearview camera with tow-hitch assist technology becomes standard. The SYNC 3 infotainment system replaces the outgoing MyFord Touch. Dual sliding side doors are now optional. And some new unfitter-friendly features — a single absorbed glass mat (AGM) battery and auxiliary fuse panels — become available.
