What is the 2021 Ford Bronco?
The Bronco’s is Ford’s classic off-roading SUV, affectionately known by aficionados as G.O.A.T. or Goes Over Any Type of Terrain. After a 20-year hiatus, the Bronco is back, and it’s better than ever.
While these new SUVs feature retro styling flourishes inside and out, they’ve also been updated to keep up with modern traffic.
As with the Broncos of yore, this crop of SUVs is available with either a two-or four-door body style. Also, every Bronco features an easy-to-remove roof, doors, and fenders, creating extra off-road versatility and fun. This new SUV is also highly configurable, with a wealth of hidden hard mounting points that let you accessorize however you like.
The seven 2021 Bronco trim levels are the base, Big Bend, Black Diamond, Outer Banks, Wildtrak, Badlands, and First Edition. The base model sets you up with a comfy cabin and plenty of off-road capabilities. As you climb the trim levels, the Bronco gets both increasingly capable and comfortable—not to mention more stylish.
What’s under these Bronco hoods?
The Bronco’s base engine is a 2.3-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine that produces a hardy output of 270 horsepower and 310 pound-feet of torque. If you’re an especially enthusiastic driver, you have the option of pairing this engine with a seven-speed manual transmission. It even includes a dedicated crawl gear, perfect for serious off-roading.
If you want to fling up a little extra mud, check out the optional turbocharged V6, an engine that makes 310 horses and 400 pound-feet of torque. This engine comes standard with Ford’s handy 10-speed automatic transmission (which is optional for the base engine). If you do a lot of highway driving, you’ll be pleased at how this 10-speed helps you balance power with efficiency.
How’s the 2021 Ford Bronco off-road?
Since the 2021 Bronco is an SUV that’s specially designed for off-roading, it’ll come as no surprise that every trim model is loaded with adventure-ready gear. For example, every single Bronco comes with a two-speed transfer case to slow down the wheels and supply extra torque when the going gets especially rough. And, of course, four-wheel drive with part-time selectable engagement is standard equipment. Ditto for all-season tires, rock rails, and a lifted suspension.
The Bronco’s Terrain Management System alters suspension settings to boost performance wherever you roam. Depending on the trim model, this system features five or seven out of the eight G.O.A.T. Modes: Normal, Eco, Sport, Slippery, Sand, Mud/Ruts, Baja, and Rock Crawl.
And there’s more! Depending on which Bronco trim model you select, you can venture even further into off-road territory with options like advanced four-wheel drive with automatic on-demand engagement and position-sensitive Bilstein shock absorbers.
